Funchal Airport (FNC): Approximate driving time is 45 minutes and distance is 35 kilometres (22 miles).
Buses run regularly from the airport terminal to Funchal town, costing around 3€, and from there to destinations across Madeira. Taxis are also available to hire.
Driving directions: From Funchal Airport follow the main highway west via Rapida in the direction of Funchal. Continue past Funchal until the end of the highway near Ribeira Brava. Turn left towards the coastal road and continue on the main coastal road past the towns of Ribeira Brava, Ponta do Sol and Madalena do Mar towards Calheta. Calheta beach resort is straight ahead.
Calheta is compact and can be easily explored on foot. Bicycles can be hired at the hotel.
